History of NYSORVA

NYSORVA was founded in January of 1993 establishing a statewide voice for OHV enthusiasts. NYSORVA gained recognition as such when it received a 1996 Memorandum of Understanding from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). NYSORVA continues to this day to work with the AMA, BRC, NOHVCC, and MIC.

On 1/1/99, NYSORVA founder Cheryl Nelson resigned as president of NYSORVA with our thanks for her long service (and the patience of her family). Click here for an open letter from Cheryl regarding her resignation.

1/1999 to 2006: “NYSORVA-II” continued under a new and rotating volunteer base to pursue the agenda and goals of the original board of directors.
In the Spring of 1999, NYSORVA mounted a come-back battle to get the ATV Trail Fund re-established by legislation, just one part in the puzzle to get a much needed trail system established in the state.

In 2007 “NYSORVA-III” was formed and is looking to the future to a stronger form of organization that will even more effectively represent the interests of the ATV and off-highway motorcycling community.

Please help us make legal publicly-accessible wheeled-OHV trails in New York a reality!
