To maintain your privacy, your response is in confidence and will not be used for commercial purposes. We will share your input with your district's elected officials unless you indicate otherwise.
Please read the background information below, complete the survey on the back, and return in the enclosed envelope.
SURVEY BACKGROUND-
Who is the New York State Off-Highway Recreational Vehicle Association?
NYSORVA is a non-profit corporation run entirely by a volunteer staff of trail riding enthusiasts, and is supported with assistance from clubs, individuals, dealers, and grant agencies.
NYSORVA acts as the statewide advocacy group with focus on matters that affect the ATV and off-highway motorcycle riding community, such as land-use issues and legislation. NYSORVA is recognized as such by national organizations including the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC). Also, NYSORVA is designated in policy by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) as the state's conduit for communication with the off-highway vehicle (OHV) user community.
In brief, NYSORVA's mission is to work with all interested parties for increased responsible OHV recreational opportunities on both public and private lands in New York State.
What is the Purpose of this survey?
Legislation has been introduced in the New York State Senate (S.632-B) and Assembly (A.1060) that proposes the creation of a statewide funding source for the development and maintenance of recreational trails for all terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-highway motorcycles throughout the state. Funded trails, as proposed in these bills, would be open to the public.
The ATV Trail Fund proposed by the legislation is modeled after the state's current registration fee-based snowmobile trail fund, which funds the upkeep of 8,000 miles of publicly accessible snowmobile routes.
This legislation will not be successful without your input and assistance. Therefore, this survey is being conducted for two important reasons:
Additionally, with a few general questions the survey aims to determine your overall level interest in the advancement of OHV recreational opportunities and to help provide us a profile of ATV and off-highway motorcycle riders in the state.
See our web site to learn how to contact your Legislative Members on this matter: http://www.nysorva.org/legislation.
Sincerely,
Alex Ernst, Communications Director
P.S.: NYSORVA, Inc is a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers who are interested in seeing the creation of satisfactory OHV opportunities for all riders in the State of New York. You can help continue these efforts by sending a small donation to help defray the costs of protecting and enhancing your OHV rights. The suggested individual-supporter donation is $15, or $100 for a club, commercial or dealer-supporter. Any donation of any amount will be graciously accepted. Thank you!
