SUPPORT YOUR STATE ASSOCIATION

NYSORVA is the state-level organization working on behalf of clubs and individual riders statewide (regardless if a member or not) representing the values of all OHV trail riders.

To start, we encourage you to join one or more local clubs to improve your access to trails on the local level. Then also consider how you can support efforts at the state level.

Naturally there are different levels of meaning to the word "join" and "member." NYSORVA is set up to be as flexible and unimposing as possible (limited bureaucracy) for those participating in its operation. For your purposes it's whatever you feel most comfortable with:

* Join the NYSORVA OHV Advocacy Database and e-mailing list (no cost), by following this link.

* Join with a financial contribution, see the Support page.

But the most important meaning we associate with "member":

* Join in the actual work that NYSORVA volunteers do either locally or on the state-level— Your personal involvement is most valued to the organization in terms of the value of your time and personal skills.

As to joining with a donation: What we are doing ("working to improve the environment for OHV recreation in NYS") is intangible in many ways, in that we don't send a regular mail newsletter/magazine, patches, membership cards, dealer discounts— all the club-type stuff. You can imagine then how hard it is to get donations for the operation of NYSORVA when we don't provide "stuff" in return for the cash. All we can do is pledge our devotion to the interests of the riders of the state, and we use the funds for things like lobbying the Legislature and state agencies, communications efforts, and research projects like the 20,000-rider survey we pursued to prove to the state that OHV people are a force to be reckoned with rather than ignored as we currently are.

So, do what you can with the time and resources you have to give to the cause knowing it's for a bigger picture issue than "where will I ride next week."

Be sure to thoroughly review the web site for more info on what we are doing. And if you can pitch-in in any way, let us know so that I can facilitate your involvement.
