State:

• ABATE-NY - Motorcyclists' rights advocacy for all of NY; ABATE-NY's Monroe County Chapter

• AMA District 3 - Sponsor of New York's AMA Political Action Committee

• NYS Trails Council  (Link is down until further notice)- A citizens' advisory board of 11 trail user groups under the jurisdiction of Office of Parks.

• NYS Snowmobile Assn. - NY's snowmobile advocacy group and association of snowmobile clubs.

• Motorcycle Assoc. of NY - Focus on rider education and safety issues.

National:

• American Motorcyclist Association - The must-join national MC/OHM/ATV advocacy organization. Excellent monthly magazine included with membership.

• American for Responsible Recreational Access – National organization of multi-use advocacy groups working to improve recreational access to public lands for all users. Interactive web site has good letter-writing features.

• American Trails - American Trails is the only national, nonprofit organization working on behalf of ALL trail interests. Includes listing of recreational trail resources nationwide.

• Blue Ribbon Coalition - National Multi-use advocacy organization

• National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council - Federation of all national OHM/ATV advocacy groups

• National 4-H Council - ATV Safety training; OHV Vision Team for youth in OHV recreation

• Now Jr. Inc. –This company provides a comprehensive list of certified training courses for road and off-road motorcycles, and ATVs. Located in the Mid-Hudson valley region. (3/02)

• Long Island Off Road Vehicle Association - As of early 2000, this is a new, much needed effort to organize LI riders. Anyone who lives and rides (or attempts to ride, hmmm) on LI is encouraged to register with the group's e-mail list. We hope to see a strong Long Island regional association develop to work on the special problems that face riders living in densely-populated a part of the State where it is very difficult to find legal riding opportunities.

• Wildlife Properties – This organization specializes in connecting mainly sportsmen to land lease opportunities primary in NY’s Southern Tier.  Some available properties may allow OHV access. Groups interested in leasing a piece of land for riding or hunting are encouraged to contact Wildlife Properties to learn more. (1/02)

ORV Parks, MX Tracks, Maps, Etc.

• ATV New York – Commercial ATV, dirtbike, snowmobile, and mt. bike ORV park, picnic areas, located in the lower-mid Hudson Valley, Modina, NY. 

• Eagle Bridge MX Park – Located in Eastern NY, Eagle Bridge (Capital District Region). Beginner to advanced MX courses, some woods trails, ATVs welcome, season passes available. (1/02)

• Long Meadows ATV Park – Commercial ATV/Dirtbike park and camping, concerts, located in far Western NY, Sinclairville. 

• Copper Ridge Trails located in Olean NY (Allegany & Cattaraugus Counties) features a schedule of Dice Runs throughout the year. Club and private rides, MX, Hare Scrambles and Rodeos can be arranged. Trails are for intermediate and advanced riders with quiet machines. See their web site for schedules and other details. • Majestic Trails: Offering over 27-miles of groomed, wooded trails that are challenging. Additional trails to be added for the 2003 season. • Paragon Adventure Park – Premier commercial OHV park (ATV/OHM/4WD/Mt. Bike/Equestrian) on 15,000 acres hosting special events and general riding by day, weekend or season pass, located near Hazelton PA. (1/02)

• Hatfield-McCoy Trail System – W. Virginia ATV/OHM permit-based trail system, 300 miles open, and growing http://www.hmtrails.com/hmtrails/ – first commercial site to drive business to the H-M area http://www.TrailScouts.com/ – Site of the organization primarily responsible for the creation of the HMTS.

• MX Track Listing – Enter “NY” and any other search criteria to get a list of commercial and private tracks (reader beware: many unofficial or unsubstantiated listings, you will need to dig for the valid commercial sites). (3/02)

• Allegany National Forest - Home of one of the most comprehensive public-land-based OHV trail systems in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast. Trail descriptions, maps camping, etc.

MA ORV trails are opened to ATVs and trailbikes from May 1 to the last Sunday in November, except that seasonal closures may be imposed to protect trails during wet times (call ahead).

To use MA state forests, all ORVs (ATV and trail bikes, sleds?) must be currently registered in Massachusetts under MGL c. 90 or MGL c. 90B. Their program is more of a permit than a registration, therefore out-of-state registrations do not count. (Exception: highway-plated trailbikes/dual-sports.) Contact the Division of Environmental Law Enforcement for registration information: 617-626-1610.
