The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently reduced by nearly 60 percent the amount of land in California's Imperial Valley considered essential to a broomlike plant's survival. Last year, Fish and Wildlife Service biologists in California proposed designating 52,780 acres of the Algodones Dunes (aka Glamis) as critical habitat for the Peirson's milk-vetch. | Driving, riding and camping along Spider Lake on the Rubicon Trail is one of the most scenic off-highway experiences in the country. However, due to the fact that there are no proper sanitation facilities, the camping area has been temporarily shut down. (see story to the left) |

Soldiers coming back from World War II are generally credited with starting the off-highway motorcycle and Jeep craze which continues today. Of course the "dirt bikes" of the day were big street bikes with a few modifications.
